Russian photographers caused quite a controversy 4 weeks ago when they published a set of stunning images captured from the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The photos, published on Mokhorov's LiveJournal page, provide a rare view of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Once the pyramids complex had closed to tourists, Makhorov and his two friends, Vitaliy Raskalov and Marat Dupri, staked out for nearly five hours, hiding themselves from Egypt's armed guards. Once the coast was clear, they climbed 481-feet to the top of the pyramids, where they captured amazing shots of the Giza Necropolis, while avoiding the sights of the guards below. According to Raskalov, they would have faced between one and three years in jail, had they been caught. "I've always been drawn to Egypt," Makhorov wrote. "For as long as I can remember my dream was to get to the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza." "We didn't want to insult anyone," He continued. "We were just following the dream." What is your reaction to this act? Are you WOWed by the images, or you think it is insulting to the culture? This multinational band stayed at Dahab hostel while they were performing at the Cairo Jazz Festival on the 17th to 19th March 2011 Arifa's secret is the creative chemistry between its four members. Coming from Romania, Turkey, the Netherlands and Germany their music is just as diverse as their origins, moving from traditional Turkish and Balkan sounds to jazz and classical music. Enjoy their jam session at Dahab hostel's roof :) |
